“Richard Cory“ (497)

Richard Cory is looked up to by the entire town because he his rich. Everyone wants to be him. He is unhappy because everyone wants to be like him because of his appearance and his money, not his actually personality. His appearance was different than reality. This story is realistic because his appearance is not what it seems. Everyone thinks he has a perfect life because they are on the outside.

“Miniver Cheevy” (497)

Miniver Cheevy wants to live in the Middle Ages. Since he cannot do that he drinks a lot and is an alcoholic. He is a minimal achiever because he cannot get what he wants. His ideal is to live in the past while the real is that he cannot do that. This is a realistic story

“Mr. Flood’s Party” (498)

He is pretending that he is at a party drinking, but he is alone. He is alone because all of his friends are gone, either dead or had moved. He is wrapped up in the past and refuses to move into the future. His ideal is that he lives in the past with all of his friends. The real is that he is stuck in the present and cannot change it.
